A few words about Lato
Lato was one of the two ancient homonymous cities in Crete, originally named Lato the Courtesan, during Roman times, the ruins of which are located about 3 kilometers away from the village of Kritsa in the prefecture of Lasithi. The city was built on a point that offered defensive cover, overlooking the Gulf of Mirabello, between two peaks. Although the city probably predated the arrival of the Dorians, both its name and its defensive position prove its establishment by the Dorians. The ruins of Lato date from the Doric period (5th and 4th century BC).
