The actions of granting it by ownership to S.E.P., took place in 1959 with the work of Georgios Lygerakis (former Prefect of Rethymno) which were completed in 1960 with the decision of the Prefect Em. Paitaki. The area was doubled in 1999, by the decision of the Prefect of Rethymnon, Manolis Litinas.
In its early years, its use, due to lack of road and infrastructure, was very difficult. It was occasionally used for camping. The first recorded scout camp was held in 1965 by the 2nd Sea Scout Group of Rethymno and the 7th Air Scout Group of Chania.
The accomplishment of the current facilities would have never been happened without the help of the Municipality of Rethymno and the Prefecture of Rethymno. In September 1998, within the framework of the 50th Meeting of the Wood Badge Alumni which took place in Paradeisos, the Central Building was inaugurated.
The activity and operation of the Scouting Center is based on two axes:
Α. Ιmplementing activities of the Scouts of Greece Association
The support on the implementation of educational programs of the Scouts of Greece Association oriented toward young people. In addition to outdoor programs (camps, etc.), it includes activities held by qualified personnel such as: explorations, hikes, mountain biking, archery, water activities, research in the adjacent archaeological monuments and in general in the neighboring city of Rethymno, social and voluntary contribution to the neighboring communities, provision of activities for the children, etc.Β. Knowledge provision.
The provision of knowledge, awareness, information on various subjects, broadening his horizons in the wider field of youth (not only for Scouts). Those who visit the Center, cab be informed and participate in various programs regarding the general troubles of the youth (Violence in the eyes of children, Racism and Xenophobia, Child prostitution, Immigration, Environmental programs, Social problems, Young people and Europe, Drugs, etc. a.), taking evidence and thus sensitizing our young people. The organization of small conferences and other youth activities not only for Scouts, will create an sector whose purpose will be to promote both Rethymno and effectively contribute to the improvement of the quality of the upcoming generations. Our history in numbers
